A Bright Smiling ‘Boss’ from Caritas Artland
Seeing this bright smiling ‘boss’ from the Caritas Art Studio in the photo (the term ‘boss’ refers to individuals with intellectual disabilities who have successfully established their own brands under the guidance of Caritas Artland), it is hard to imagine that just a few years ago, she was a sensitive person prone to misunderstandings with others. Due to these traits, she faced repeated setbacks in the open job market and was even dismissed.
Deep Pencil Marks
This ‘boss’ is named Mini. She became a member of the Caritas Joyous Link in 2014, and it was in a painting competition in 2020 that center staff inadvertently discovered her talent for painting, leading them to arrange art training courses for her to nurture her interest in painting. In her early works, her strokes were powerful, and one could always see deep pencil marks, reflecting her fluctuating emotions.
The Magical Effects of Drawing
After experiencing ups and downs for three years, with the support of staff and fellow members, she finally found a way to deal with her emotions. Whenever she felt her emotions declining, she would proactively paint to sort out her unsettled feelings. Over time, her paintings no longer showed deep pencil marks, and the themes of her works shifted to desserts or cute animals. Through painting, her sharp edges softened, and she became gentler than before. Gradually, she also developed a sentimental attachment to artistic painting.
Bringing Confidence with Bunny Paintings
In 2023, Mini became the first artist from Caritas Artland to be recognized by Caritas La Vie, using her ‘bunny paintings’ to decorate mooncake boxes. The copyright fees from her artworks became her first earnings. When she personally received her own check, the smile that came from her heart fully displayed her confidence and satisfaction at that moment. This opportunity affirmed Mini’s achievements, giving her more confidence in her work. She diligently participated in various public competitions, step by step, unfolding her artistic journey.
Caritas Artland firmly believes in the dignity of individuals, and that everyone’s talents are worthy of appreciation. We believe that through heartfelt guidance, each person can discover their self-worth and live out their best selves.
